This wild alpine setting is a pristine backcountry area where the combination of streams, lakes, topography and elevation offer the opportunity to experience nature and view wildlife while enjoying the inviting and comfortable home base that is Talus Lodge.
Accessible only by helicopter from Canmore, Alberta area, a great alternative to heli hiking or heli skiing, the flight into this remote lodge on the BC side of the provincial border offers stunning views of Kananaskis Country and The Rocky Mountains. Upon arrival, you’ll be impressed by the visually outstanding mountain horn fittingly called Talon Peak which forms the backdrop to Talus Lodge.
The variety of terrain, provides extensive opportunities for nature viewing, wilderness photography, wildlife observation, and hiking. Easy plateau walking and accessible mountain ridges offer outstanding views of the surrounding area. These include: Mount Assiniboine, The Royal Group, Mount Sir Douglas, Mount Birdwood, and Burstall Pass. Many small alpine lakes add to the beauty of the terrain.
Winter offers unlimited possibilities for enjoying Talus Lodge for everyone. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing in non avalanche terrain and backcountry skiing for all weather and snow conditions are available due to the diversity of the terrain. Talus Lodge is an ideal location for family, couples, or small groups play time. There are great toboggan runs adjacent to the lodge! Ski touring for intermediate and advanced skiers including tree skiing is also available at Talus Lodge.
Enjoy a pleasant afternoon exploring the gentle and extensive plateau by the lodge and admire the panoramic view of the peaks at their winter best. The larch meadows immediately adjacent to and below the lodge also offer fantastic opportunities to enjoy winter and observe evidence of wildlife use. More adventurous and experienced groups will delight in the variety and the intricacies of the terrain and superb landforms of this unique corner of the Rockies.
