MONDAY AND THURSDAY EXCHANGE DAYS

WINTER HELICOPTER ACCESS

Helicopter flights depart from Canmore Municipal Heliport which is located in the Town of Canmore or the Mount Shark Helipad which is an hour drive from Canmore. Helicopter staging location will be confirmed one week prior to trip departure.

CANMORE MUNICIPAL HELIPORT

Check in 8:15 am
Location 91 Bow Valley Trail. Canmore, Alberta.
Staging gear Bring gear to the log cabin with the red roof. Luggage tags will be provided by Alpine Helicopter staff.
Parking Parking is limited at the Canmore Municipal Heliport. We recommend car pooling with members of your group whenever possible. If you have friends in Canmore, please consider parking offsite and arranging to be dropped off at the Heliport. There is no overnight parking available for RV’s or trailers at the Canmore Municipal Heliport.

MOUNT SHARK HELIPAD

Check in 8:45 am
Location Mount Shark Helipad.
Kananaskis Conservation Pass A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required for all vehicles. To purchase: click here.
From Canmore Via Spray Lakes Road (#742). Allow 1 hour of driving time. click here

Road conditions Check road conditions prior to departure: Alberta Roads and Kananaskis Public Safety
Be prepared There are no services at the Mount Shark Helipad. There is an outhouse. Depart with a full tank of gas. Bring water and snack.
Staging gear Park at the five minute unloading area at the end of the helipad access road. Unload gear at the end of the helipad access road and carry gear to the helicopter landing area. Driving and/or parking is not permitted on the Mount Shark helicopter landing area.
Parking After you have staged your gear, return vehicles to the Mount Shark Helipad parking area located 200 meters from the Mount Shark Helipad.

BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE

  • One day pack no more than 35 litres.
  • One duffel no more than 30 L. Maximum duffel size is 20cm x 31cm x 50cm.
  • Maximum baggage weight per guest
    • must not exceed 17 KG or 37 lbs.
    • does not include ski/split board and poles.
    • does not include the ski helmut and ski boots which you will be wearing on the helicopter.
  • One set of equipment allowed per person.
  • Should excess baggage result in an unscheduled additional flight, the cost is the responsibility of the group.

PREPARE LIKE A PRO FOR THE HELICOPTER

Wear ski boots, helmet and ski clothing on board.  Carry your prescriptions on your person.

No wheelies and hard sided suitcases. We love small duffels and day packs.
Let the helicopter loader know if you have an avalanche pack.

No dingle dongels hanging off your pack.

Wine and beer is available for purchase at the lodge. Should you want to bring libations (other than wine and beer), please transfer to a plastic container.

MANDATORY SAFETY VIDEO

Mount Shark passengers must watch the mandatory safety video prior to departure for the Mount Shark Helipad. Canmore passengers will watch the video at the Canmore Municipal Heliport.

RETURNING TO CIVILIZATION

Talus Lodge recommends not booking commercial flights on the departure day from Talus.
