Updated June 1, 2020
At Talus we are taking a systematic and collaborative approach to operate safely amongst the current climate of COVID-19. This includes updates to staff training, operating procedures, risk management, staff and guest medical screening, alongside communicating with all our partners to ensure that we are complying with a newly formed and developing industry standard. Going forward, we are confident that these updated systems will provide our guests a safe and enjoyable opportunity to explore the Talus area.
To ensure the health and safety of our clients, staff and partners, we have developed a set of Best Management Practices (BMPs). These are designed to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission and to provide confidence that we are doing everything we can to protect our community. In the development of specific sector plans, we have identified five principles, which have been used to guide our operating protocol pertaining to staff and guests. These include:
Stay at Home if you are sick
Safe Physical Distancing
|Staff and guests||required to adhere to our updated Health and Safety Policies|
|Stay at home||Covid signs/symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, or shortness of breath. Trip cancellation is mandatory if;
|Prescreening||A declaration of health and exposure to be completed to ensure everyone is healthy before travelling.|
|Health evaluation at staging||
|Personal hygiene||Maintaining a high level of personal hygiene is required at all times following provincial guidelines.|
|Physical distancing||Maintaining physical distancing and wearing face cover/mask is required between staff and guests.|
|Orientation||Following health and safety guidelines provided by Talus during orientation and adhering to the guidelines outlined in the on-site manual administered by the Provincial Health Officer for staff, guest and facility health and hygiene procedures.|
|COVID signs/symptoms at Talus||Should anyone feel unwell, an isolation venue and separate venue will be followed by evacuation;
|Post trip follow up||We will be communicating, post trip, regarding any COVID-19 positive tests in the 14 days after Talus departure.|
|Best practice sanitization||The lodge has been, and will always be, cleaned to meet public health guidelines. We are taking additional steps to ensure guest and staff safety|
|Prior to arrival||
|Onsite||Cleaning of the main lodge during your stay is the groups responsibility. Wash house will be closed for two hours daily to allow for staff access and cleaning.|
Talus Lodge cannot provided and environment to maintain physical distancing between guests. Physical distancing is not a requirement between members of the same isolation pod. Entire lodge group bookings, in which everyone has assumed the collective risk to being together, are welcome. Call it your cohort, your pod, your bubble, your squad, or your quaranteam. Talus is about people as much is it is about place. We can offer togetherness between members of your inner circle.
Physical distancing will be practiced at all times between staff and guests. If appropriate distancing is not feasible, mask wear will be required.
The hybrid self catered experience allows for physical distancing between the group and staff. Talus will return to the full service product this winter but we aren’t operational ready this summer as structural lodge modifications are required.
More importantly, having your own backcountry lodge to yourself could be fun. Whether your idea of a good time is a vipassana retreat or fireball on repeat, this is your once in a life time opportunity.
The group will be responsible for cooking, dishes and cleanliness and sanitation of the main lodge. Staff will live and cook in a separate building. When staff enter the lodge, physical distancing and/or mask wear will be maintained. Along with setting your crew up for culinary success, we will be providing van shuttle from staging, guided hiking on the hiking access route and daily guided hiking.
Accommodation including linens and towels
Self catered with a stocked kitchen and honour bar. Our favourite recipes and the ingredients required will be on hand. On arrival day, apres hike will be waiting along with a ready to warm dinner. We promise the cookie jar will be full. Because fresh sourdough bread is the anchor of our life, we will be delivering warm loaves daily.
